Local startup Hone Agriculture has developed a handheld light device which helps farmers test the chemical properties of soil, crops and grain samples, revolutionising what has traditionally been a very slow and arduous process.

Started by three PhD students, Hone has grown into a team of 12 full-time staff. Hone's growth has been greatly helped by the Newcastle innovation ecosystem. Whilst at the I2N hub, the business benefited from gaining early-stage support and receiving the connection they needed to raise their first round of seed capital.

Hone was also a resident of incubator Eigtheen04. Residing at Eigtheen04 Hone raised $1.6 million in investment. Hone has further benefited from participating in Hunter iF's Pitch X competition, which helped to raise the profile of the startup in its early-stage growth.
