Leading Edge Data Centre gives Newy businesses tech advantage

Leading Edge Data Centres is an Australian tech company on a mission to provide regional communities with more choice and better access to fast, reliable and cost-effective networks. The company builds data centres across Australia, including Newcastle, creating a network that services communities of all sizes, giving them access to greater connectivity and better infrastructure.

Newcastle’s Leading Edge Data Centre allows people, businesses and communities within the region to be better connected, providing world class internet and direct cloud connectivity. Newcastle’s centre is the first of these sites across regional NSW, giving local businesses the option to be more directly connected and to store their data close by.

More local employment will be generated as data centres are assembled locally, with more than 195 jobs already created as a result of its design and construction.

The strengthening of Newcastle’s digital economy has created a more innovative environment for local businesses; Leading Edge Data Centres’ CEO Chris Thorpe asserts that the Newcastle centre will provide us with “the same internet and direct cloud connectivity as any other metropolitan city.”

The Leading Edge Data Centre has driven innovation and further shaped the city of Newcastle, with Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes asserting that “This construction and expansion of IT infrastructure will support the local community, as well as provide new opportunities for economic growth for local businesses.”

City of Newcastle has also given approval for a data centre to be located at Newcastle Airport in Williamtown, as part of plans to expand into 14 areas in regional NSW. The expansion will produce more jobs and establish a more connected Newcastle, shaping it to be a more economically and culturally prosperous city.
