Innovation and success unite at Eighteen04
Innovative people flourish under the right conditions. Since 2015, co-working space and “inspirational incubator” Eighteen04 has been Newcastle's centre for innovation. With a focus on clean tech and Smart Cities based initiatives, this collaborative hub provides a space for innovative, environmentally conscious startups to thrive.
Eighteen04 operates on three major principles: giving startups access to a collaborative co-working space, obtaining capital funding, and offering advice from experienced mentors. Unlike traditional co-working spaces, Eighteen04 also offers event space and makerspace facilities to residents.
Many of Newcastle's startup success stories call Eighteen04 home, with current “residents” including technology company Anditi, Smart Cities initiative Newie Ventures, and solar technology innovators SwitchDin.
Since its inception, Eighteen04's residents have raised more than $8 million in funding and created more than 60 jobs for the local economy. Strong links with the University of Newcastle and Hunter TAFE ensure our top local talent stays in Newcastle by creating jobs and opportunities right here in our city.
Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said, "Our vision is to be a smart, liveable and sustainable global city by 2030."
"While we talk a lot about smart technology and infrastructure, smart cities are first and foremost about people."
"We have the capacity and are attracting the talent to develop the next generation of Smart City solutions right here in Newcastle to address challenges that many cities are facing."
