The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct
Posted 4th February 2021
An incredible $780 million has been allocated to create the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct in Newcastle. The master plan involves the expansion and enhancement of John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children's Hospital.
This plan will further shape the city's thriving health division, delivering updated facilities and equipment and encouraging further collaboration between health service providers. A brand new and larger emergency department will be added, along with enhanced critical care services (both in adult and paediatric care) and other essential facilities and services.
The skill and innovation of the teams involved with this decision has served the Hunter region and beyond in unprecedented ways, transforming the way the Hunter delivers health care - expanding and reaching the immediate and surrounding regions in new avenues.
The project will also generate jobs, with skilled healthcare positions available in the additional procedure rooms, patient accommodation and clinical/non-clinical support services. The Health and Innovation Precinct will help pave the way to shaping Newcastle into a more prosperous and vibrant area for those living, working and visiting.
Work is expected to start in 2021 with the bulk of construction scheduled to take place in 2022.
