You're invited to attend the Famil from May 7 to 9 here in Newcastle!
The Famil is a bespoke orientation to our city, designed for soon-to-be Novocastrians like yourself.
This won’t be like any old Open Day. From Friday through Sunday, our team will facilitate a range of events and experiences that will welcome you to our city, help you find your feet, and acquaint yourself with its landmarks, dining options, workplaces, and locals.
Do I need to attend the Famil to progress my application for the $10k relocation grant?
Yes, you need to demonstrate your desire and commitment to move to Newcastle by getting familiar with our city. The best way to do this is by attending at least one event during the Famil from Friday, 7 May through Sunday, 9 May.
If you are impacted by travel restrictions or cannot visit Newcastle for personal reasons, an option to attend a Virtual Famil will be provided later in May.
Do I need to film my video pitch in Newcastle?
Yes, we recommend filiming your pitch while visiting for the Famil from Friday 7 May to Sunday 9 May 2021.
If you can’t make the Famil weekend you can fill your video pitch in Newcastle between now and Sunday 23 May 2021 when submissions close.
What if you can’t make it to Newcastle at all? Sign up to attend the virtual Famil session on Thursday 13 May 2021 and we’ll let you know what to do next.
Do I need to book my own accommodation, travel and meals for the Famil?
Do I need to book for each individual activity in the Famil program?
Yes, as part of our COVIDsafe planning we need to know who is at each activity.
The City of Newcastle has commissioned the University of Newcastle to undertake an evaluation of the New Move program, to examine how the program initially attracted people to Newcastle and will assess its longer contribution to the economy, the workforce and community cohesion in order to make policy and practice recommendations to support migration to Newcastle.
The University of Newcastle’s research team may ask you to participate in this evaluation at Famil events this Friday 7th May - Sunday 9th May 2021. We encourage you to engage with the University’s research team at these events.
You may be photographed or videoed while attending this event. Please approach the organiser if you have questions, concerns, or do not wish for this to happen.
